Jobs at big companies

Filed under: freshers, job — admin @ 12:24 am

Most students prefer jobs at big companies because of the security they offer.  But today a company may be very big, tomorrow it may not exist because it is poorly managed.  This is especially true of family owned concerns - the first generation builds the business, the second generation maintains it and the third generation destroys it due to infighting and their other vices.  So it is important to check the work culture before taking a decision.

Spy for search engine!

Filed under: job, types — admin @ 1:33 am

One of the most intriguing part time jobs I have heard of recently is working as  mole doing corporate espionage for Google. Campus placements

Filed under: freshers, job — admin @ 6:14 am

Till last year, students from the top MBA colleges would be flooded with offers from companies offering huge salaries.  This year , the placement officers are getting desperate.  I have got emails from some of the famous colleges about the campus placement program.  I don’t have or will ever have full time employees, but the situation seems to be very bad.

Severance package

Filed under: job, layoffs — admin @ 12:37 am

The severance package offered by a company is usually defined in the offer letter by the company.  Usually the terms are 2 way, applicable if the employee decides to leave on his own to seek better opportunities or if the company decides that they no longer need his or services.  During an economic boom,  the attrition rate is high and many employees leave.  In a recession the reverse is applicable.

Jobs and perks

Filed under: job, salaries — admin @ 12:35 am

Initially companies offer a lot of perks to their employees to attract the best talent.  Later, as they grow, the perks offered reduce.  This is especially true during a recession.
